Aviation English with RMIT English Worldwide

How we tailor solutions for you

We can help you conduct placement tests to determine your personnel’s current level of Aviation English to determine the best training solution for you. This could be face-to-face, online or a blended approach.

We will work with you to deliver the course to ensure the duration aligns with your scheduling requirements and all participants will be supported by our fully qualified Aviation English trainers. We can also train your local trainers to deliver our courses.

Learning objectives

  • Help participants increase their fluency and accuracy when speaking and writing English in specific aviation contexts. 
  • Improve understanding (listening) of short conversations and reading of short texts on aviation work-related topics.
  • Increase knowledge of aviation and work-related vocabulary and accuracy in grammar.

Course

This course consists of 72 hours of highly interactive Aviation English learning activities across six units, set in relevant work-related contexts. It can be tailored to focus on any personnel within your organisation, for example, cadet pilots, cadet air traffic controllers, and maintenance and cabin crew. Each unit has four themes and each theme has three lessons of one hour each.

The focus is on fluency and the practical use of English in a professional setting.

Beyond Level 4 for Pilots

Learning objectives

To help participants go beyond ICAO Level 4 (Operational) and maintain their English language proficiency between tests.

To develop high level listening and speaking skills in plain English for use in aviation related contexts, including radiotelephony communication contexts.

Course

This course consists of over 200 highly interactive eLearning activities across eight units, each based on a different safety related topic, including landing incidents, engine failure and runway incursions.

Fully delivered online, Beyond Level 4 allows participants to study wherever and whenever best suits them.

Radiotelephony English

Learning objectives

To develop pilots' and air traffic controllers' plain English language skills for use in radiotelephony communication to be able to meet the ICAO Language Proficiency Requirements, and help them achieve ICAO Level 4 (Operational) upon completion.

Course

This course consists of 125 hours of learning materials delivered in two components—the workbook (65 hours) and online (60 hours).

The course takes an interactive approach to learning with activities based on a variety of ground and in-flight situations. It focuses on developing listening and speaking skills required for routine and non-routine communication by using aviation words and phrases, as well as plain English.

Case studies

Oman Aircraft Control College

Oman Aircraft Control College, a joint civil and military training college located in Muscat, undertook Aviation English training developed by RMIT English Worldwide to meet ICAO Language Proficiency Requirements. 

Trainers from the College were trained to deliver the course.

Russian Civil Aviation Authority and the Moscow Aviation Institute (MAI)

RMIT English Worldwide worked with MAI to deliver a training program that helped over 2000 pilots and air traffic controllers develop their proficiency to ICAO Level 4 (Operational), and in some cases Level 5 (Extended).

Beyond Level 4 allows aviation personnel to maintain their English language proficiency between tests.

Terrindo

RMIT English Worldwide worked with Terrindo and airport management in Jakarta, to deliver tailored Aviation English courses for specific purposes.

Aviation English trainers delivered intensive courses over 1-2 weeks and local teachers were trained to deliver future courses.
